Be very careful of people advertising to be an agency, there is a huge difference between an agency and an academy

A modelling agency is a company that represents models, to work for the fashion industry.

These agencies earn their income via commission, usually from the deal they make with the

model and/or the company looking for models.

The agencies find work for models by presenting them to designers, photographers, and ad agencies. The agencies are also responsible for booking the jobs, billing for the jobs, and eventually paying the models for their time. By handling the details, an agency allows a model to focus on modelling and not on the business end. They will set you up with your portfolio and z cards.

A modelling academy is where you go to get training in different types of modelling. The academy will also help you to get placed in the right agency after training is complete. Please don't go looking for your own agency, this is dangerous.

Modelling Z cards: Z cards are a modelling version of business cards and like a portfolio they show your versatility and scope as a model. Unlike your portfolio that will stay with you throughout your career as a model. A Z-Card can be handed out and left with potential clients and agencies.

Your modeling portfolio is essentially your resume. It should have everything you need to make a good impression and showcase what you can do, so it should obviously include your most flattering photos and previous features, if there are any. This is a models curriculum vitae. As an aspiring model, you need an amazing modelling portfolio to kick start your career. It's your chance to make a great first impression on agencies and clients.

Please note: When joining an agency, you need to life near the agency. You cannot have different zip codes. You will need to be available for interviews and may receive a call the morning that you need to be at your agency that afternoon. This is a very competitive industry, and you need to be available all the time.

Pageantry: This is a beauty competition where the entree needs to promote herself. There is a pageant walk, interviews and lots of work to be done before the crowning takes place. No, the prettiest face does not always win. The winner is determined by a lot of factors like her interview, sponsorship, photogenic, the pageant walk, work she does for the pageant's charities ex. You need to find out each pageants rules and what they are looking for. Each pageant will differ, therefor you need to be trained and prepared for every pageant you enter differently.
